Thanks everyone for the replies and info, it helps a lot. I’ve passed much of int and more on to the band, and hopefully we can create something unique and interesting.

On an unrelated tangent, I just bought a used B&K/DPA 4006 and it seems to have some problems. Can anyone recommend a good mic tech in the LOs Angeles area? I want to get it checked out before I decide what to do.

Thanks!

The recording is from the last 1–2 minutes of the CVR of Japan Airlines Flight 123 <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Airlines_Flight_123>, which crashed on August 12, 1985, killing 520 people; JAL 123 is the deadliest single-aircraft disaster in history.

They are a conceptually driven band, so each album is written around a concept and story that the songs tell.

Second, do they capture sound from an ambient mic in the cockpit, or via the headsets worn by the crew (i.e. what kind of audio quality, bandwidth and ambient noise would one expect)? Third, if we actually obtained one (seem to be a few on eBay), does anyone know how one would interface with it and power it?
