<p>I remember my Dad telling me about setting up some sort of
operation to record onto aluminum discs at CBS Radio in NY City
during WWII. I want to say that they set this up immediately after
1941-12-07. I don't recall what was being recorded, but I think it
was other news feeds both foreign and domestic. He's not around to
clarify anymore.</p>

Yes.... interestingly I did a google search and it seems that Ecko in the
UK sold a recording device that attached to the speaker output of your home
radio to allow you record programs on an embossed disc quite early on. Is
this possibly it? Not something I see in the US, but the British origin would
make good sense that this is what they'd be talking about.
