    <p><font face="Arial">I was taught years ago that microphones are
        sacred. The vast majority of recording studios that I have
        worked in, have a </font><font face="Arial"><font face="Arial">Mic</font>
        policy. The one universal thing about all of the policies was
        that </font><font face="Arial"><font face="Arial">Mics</font>
        are to be put away when you are finished. Some studios had </font><font
        face="Arial"><font face="Arial">Mic</font> closets, some had </font><font
        face="Arial"><font face="Arial">Mic</font> cabinets or
        lockers.My personal collection remains locked in a trunk &
        is visited, at least, once or twice a year.The Mics that I  have
        left out were calibration mics (Sorry David, not a Josephson)
        & those mics were unplugged & covered. I think Bob
        Katz's suggestion is a good one. That said, I would go the extra
        step & unplug it when not in use. Besides, unplugging &
        replugging exercises the connector which operates at Mic level.</font><br>

            I keep my USB mic covered in a lint free cloth bag just to
            be sure. I have to unplug when not in use or Pro Tools tried
            to use it :-).

                      of would be if the mic is in an area with lots of
                      particulates in the air, like smoke. Leaving the
                      polarization on will not hurt anything but if
                      there is any amount of junk to be pulled from the
                      air and adhered to the insulation of the
                      microphone that might mean you'd need to clean it
                      sooner, but that's a really long shot.

                        I know the electronics will have slight
                        additional wear from being powered all the time,
                        but that is probably less than would be caused
                        by power cycling a couple times per day. The
                        question is more about the capsule. It is
                        externally polarized (not electret) I am not
                        worried about self discharge, but are there
                        other factors that age a diaphragm just by being
                        kept polarized?<br class="">
